Marissa Sappho is the Co-Founder & Director of Clinical Services at Aurora Center NYC, specializing in yoga-based treatment for Binge Eating Disorder. She manages a full-time patient caseload and teaches as an Adjunct Professor at NYU and Faculty at the Center for the Study of Anorexia and Bulimia (CSAB). A co-founder and former President of the New York State Coalition of Social Workers, Marissa's diverse clinical experience spans inpatient and outpatient settings, supervision, and program development. She is a prolific presenter and writer on topics like eating disorders and social work advocacy. Currently, Marissa is developing innovative treatment models, researching binge eating symbolism, and studying social media's impact on intimate relationships in emerging adulthood.

Once you recognize that a patient may have an eating disorder, do you know what should happen next? Eating-disorder treatment is never one-size-fits-all. Healthcare and community professionals must understand available treatment approaches, recognize when a higher level of care is needed, and help patients and families navigate appropriate next steps.
Led by Marissa Sappho, LCSW, BCD, CEDS-S, founder of Aurora Behavioral Health, this four-session seminar provides a practical framework for understanding the treatment landscape, collaborating across disciplines, and facilitating appropriate referrals.
Key Learning Objectives:
Compare Treatment Modalities: Examine the foundational principles and clinical applications of psychodynamic psychotherapy, CBT, DBT, Family-Based Treatment (FBT/Maudsley), IFS, and other core approaches.
Differentiate Levels of Care: Distinguish among inpatient hospitalization, residential treatment, partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), and outpatient care.
Support Treatment Planning & Referrals: Consider how diagnosis, symptom severity, medical risk, and developmental stage inform treatment decisions and interdisciplinary collaboration.

- This seminar is offered as a companion to How to Diagnose an Eating Disorder with Jacob Pine, LCSW. Together, the two programs provide a foundational pathway from recognizing early warning signs and evaluating complex presentations to understanding treatment modalities and levels of care. Each seminar may be taken independently. Participants who register for both programs will receive a discounted bundled rate.
