General Adult Treatment Services
The Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy has been providing psychotherapy services to the community, and training to post-graduate professionals since 1971.
The Adult Treatment Service, one of six treatment divisions of the Institute, provides a range of psychotherapeutic treatment services at a moderate cost sliding-scale.
We offer individual psychotherapy (1-2 times a week); intensive psychoanalytic treatment (3-5 times a week); intake assessment; and referral for supportive medication consultation and treatment, when needed, as an adjunct to ongoing psychotherapy.
We are a training institute for mental health professionals. Clinicians of the Adult Treatment Service are psycho-dynamically oriented. Many have post-graduate training in psychoanalysis or in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, through one of ICP's training programs or an equivalent. Some are currently in such training.
The majority of our therapists have completed their graduate degrees and are licensed. Some are earning those degrees or are completing their professional licensing requirements. As such, their ICP clinical work is performed under the supervision of a licensed and experienced professional supervisor.
Therapy can help with a wide range of issues including anxiety, stress, panic attacks, depression, apathy, inability to experience pleasure, guilt and shame, effects of sexual, physical and emotional abuse, low self-esteem, chronic feelings of emptiness, and persistent unhappiness.
Our staff understands the value of early intervention. An initial intake interview is usually scheduled within a few days after you have contacted the Institute. At an initial interview, you and an intake worker will discuss your situation, as well as our process for selection of a therapist, treatment planning, referrals, and fee which is determined by a sliding scale.
Our intakes and treatment sessions are by appointment only. We are not set up to provide walk-in or crisis-intervention services for people seeking immediate help. We suggest that you contact your local hospital emergency clinic if you are in need of immediate consultation.
The start of psychotherapy is a big step. It is our goal to make it a constructive experience for you. There may be times when our waiting period for an intake appointment is too long for your needs. Or, we may believe that our services may not be right for you. In either case, we will make ever effort to provide you with other referrals. Please know that if we are unable to match you with one of our therapists, it does not reflect on your ability to benefit from treatment.
Please be sure to look at the main ICP website to consider which of our six treatment services might best serve your needs.
