Certificate Program in Integrated Trauma Studies
Training in Traumatic Stress Studies
The mental health community has responded to the exponential increase in the understanding of the psychological and neurobiological consequences of trauma by developing new and diverse treatment models that address trauma’s impact on the mind and body. While this new knowledge greatly enhances the possibilities for helping trauma survivors to heal, it has also created a pressing need for comprehensive clinical training in trauma treatment. Our program offers an integrative approach to the treatment of trauma that includes psychodynamic as well as newer brain/mind/body models. Additionally, emphasis is placed on treating trauma in the context of the family and community. We are committed to empowering therapists to provide the highest level of clinical skill to survivors by enhancing their ability to bear witness to their patients’ suffering and to grapple with the profound existential issues presented by such suffering. To that end, we provide the emotional support that allows trainees to maintain their emotional presence and therapeutic stance.
The program offers a two-stage sequence of learning, with each stage lasting one academic year, October through May. Upon completion of the Basic Training, trainees may elect to continue in the second-year Advanced Training. Graduates will be granted certificates in Basic and Advanced Trauma Studies upon successful completion of each stage of training.
The tuition for each year is $3350. Seminars, Supervision Groups and Process Groups meet on Wednesdays from 9am to 12 noon. Individual supervision is scheduled at a time mutually convenient to the trainee and supervisor.
