OATS:  At the dawn of the 21st century, adults over the age of 65 are living longer than ever and are the fastest growing part of the population. Despite expanded possibilities for individual growth and maturation, older adults may experience lack of energy, insomnia, agitation, stress, loss, loneliness, confusion, or depression. Many dismiss these symptoms and feelings as the result of old age and ask, "What can I really expect at my age?" Others wonder, "What's the point of living so long?" The Older Adult Treatment Service staff helps older people to recognize the stigma and myths associated with aging and to better understand, cherish, and advance their own development. The point is not how long we live, but how well.

Treatment: Psychotherapy and psychoanalysis are effective treatments for depression and a broad range of emotional and physical conditions.  Our highly-trained psychotherapists will help you find new richness and vitality as you pursue the possibility of joy and meaning in your life.  OATS offers individual psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, group psychotherapy, community outreach, speakers' bureau, education and training, home visits, and referrals.  Offices of OATS therapists are located throughout New York City.  At an initial interview at ICP, you and an intake worker will discuss selection of a therapist, treatment planning, referrals and fees.  Medicare and most insurance plans are accepted.

Our bodies keep growing older, but our sense of self -- whether age 2 or 102 -- simply needs to keep evolving.  With the proper help and support, we never stop becoming who we are.
